Dr. Nelson was born and raised in Nashville. She completed her residency training at the University of Rochester, where she served as chief resident. She currently works as an attending physician at Vanderbilt's main Emergency Department downtown and at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital Emergency Department in Lebanon, TN. She is passionate about medical education, humanism in medicine, social justice and health disparities. Outside of medicine, Dr. Nelson enjoys hiking, backpacking, kayaking, and playing music. She and her husband are well-known for their hobby of making unique homemade ice cream flavors for their friends and neighbors in East Nashville.
