Dr. Smith served as Chief Resident at the University of Cincinnati Hospital prior to coming to Vanderbilt as faculty. He has won several teaching awards with the Emergency Medicine residency, including the Corey M. Slovis Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Smith has an interest in both resident and medical student education and has been involved in the medical student clerkship, the Vanderbilt Wilderness Medicine Society, and the School of Medicine's Master Clinical Teacher faculty. He also serves as one of the course directors for the longitudinal Foundations of Healthcare Delivery course. Dr. Smith and his wife Sara have six children, one dog, and an assortment of other animals. He enjoys hiking, camping, any type of fishing, bonsai trees and gardening.
