
Division Director Emergency Ultrasound
Dr. Boyd joined Vanderbilt in 2013 as the department's first Emergency Ultrasound fellow, after which he served as the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Director. As of 2019, he serves as the Director of the Division of Emergency Ultrasound. His interests include the teaching and use of point of care ultrasound in multiple settings (ED/ICU, international, and prehospital), graduate and undergraduate medical education, and wilderness medicine. He teaches and has lectured on point of care ultrasound locally, nationally, and internationally from Memphis to Fairbanks to Georgetown, Guyana. He has served on the board of directors of the National Resident Matching Program (the Match) and was Chief Resident at the University of Cincinnati where he completed residency training prior to joining faculty at Vanderbilt. A Memphis native and Philosophy major at Rhodes College in Memphis, as well as a graduate of the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program of Columbia University and the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, he now enjoys exploring Music City and the natural surroundings of Middle Tennessee with his wife and three young daughters.
