
Dr. McKinzie graduated from the Medical College of Virginia of Virginia Commonwealth University in 1986. He completed his internship in General Surgery at the University of Massachusetts, followed by an Emergency Medicine residency at the Methodist Hospital of Indiana where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. McKinzie joined the Vanderbilt Emergency Medicine faculty in 1991. He served as attending physician in both the the Adult ED and Pediatric ED at Vanderbilt for 25 years, and now works exclusively on the adult side. He also serves as Collaborating Physician for the Vanderbilt Health Clinic at Walgreens network of 14 clinics. Dr. McKinzie's interests include international emergency medicine, medical missions, and healthcare volunteerism. He has volunteered in more than 25 clinical and educational medical missions in diverse global settings, including Guyana, Zambia, Uganda, Peru, Ecuador and Nicaragua. He enjoys travel, photography, music and spending time with his family. He is the proud grandfather of Luke and Micah!
