Michael Ward, MD, MBA

Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine 

Michael J. Ward is Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a K12 Scholar (NHLBI K12 HL109019-02). Prior to medical school, Dr. Ward served as a consultant with Stockamp & Associates. He attended medical school and obtained his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) at Emory University in 2006. He pursued residency training at the University of Cincinnati and served as Chief Resident, completing residency in 2010.

The focus of Dr. Ward’s research is on the operational performance of acute care health systems. He recently completed a three-year operations research fellowship at the University of Cincinnati where he is still a doctoral candidate in operations management. He was funded by a two-year Emergency Medicine Foundation Research Fellowship during this time focusing on the operational implications of electronic health record implementation. As a K12 scholar at Vanderbilt University, his focus is on inter-facility transfer of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).
