Why did you choose VUMC Emergency Medicine?
Vanderbilt had a unique blend of allowing you to see some of the most complex patients as well as having a large volume of trauma so I knew that it would be a place that teaches me well beyond the scope of a typical emergency medicine program. They also have amazing faculty who are all willing to teach and the culture amongst residents and attendings/residency leadership is second to none. It really is all that you could ever ask for out of a program.
What are your interests within Emergency Medicine?
I really enjoy medical education, getting to teach students how amazing the ED can be. I also enjoy learning in the simulation lab and plan on doing some sessions with students.
What would you be doing if you weren't doing Emergency Medicine?
Growing up I always enjoyed working on cars, so I think I would probably have gotten an engineering degree and tried to work in car manufacturing or own my own garage. I also love the outdoors and maybe would have used my biology degree to become a park ranger/work in the national park system.
What's your 5-year plan?
I plan on finishing residency and finding a place for my fiancé and I to live. She is a veterinarian and if she loves her new practice there is a good chance we will be staying in Nashville to live. I really want to find an attending job that allows me to teach students or residents in some aspect.
What's a random fact about you?
I have pet allergies and am about to marry a veterinarian!
