The fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM), accredited through the American Board of Emergency Medicine, is a specialized training program designed to provide and refine knowledge and skills regarding the care of acutely ill and injured children. Candidates must complete a three-year residency in either Emergency Medicine (EM) or General Pediatrics (Peds) to be eligible; both are welcome and encouraged to apply. Our fellowship training program requires three years of training from graduates of both pediatric and emergency medicine residency programs, with an emphasis on clinical research as an integral part of the process. Our fellows all complete rotations within the Pediatric ED, Adult ED, Trauma Surgery Service, and Toxicology Service. There are also a number of months for fellows to choose elective rotations.
Vanderbilt's PEM fellowship was initiated in 2001 and currently accepts two(2) fellows per training year. Vanderbilt participates in the NRMP Match. The deadline for completed applications, through the ERAS program, is September 1st. Further information about the training program is available by calling (615) 936-3898 or by writing to: Tom Abramo, MD , FAAP, FACEP
