Trauma Conference
The Trauma/Emergency Medicine Resuscitation conference is a multidisciplinary conference that focuses on the initial resuscitation of adult trauma patients. The conference is held every Monday at 11:00 am in the EM conference room/7th floor Oxford House. The conference is open to all personnel involved in the care and transport of trauma patients to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Conference attendees must have a VUMC ID badge or an ID badge and or uniform from respective agency/organization. CME is available for the conference; see below.

Official Conference Description
This multidisciplinary conference is a joint venture between the Vanderbilt Department of Emergency Medicine and Division of Trauma
This conference is established with the purpose of evaluating and improving the quality of care.
The discussions and interactions held in this conference are strictly for educational and quality improvement/review purposes only.

Trauma Conference Goals
  • Provide a high quality educational conference on acute trauma care
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality care and excellence
  • Improve patient care processes and clinical outcomes

Continuing Medical Education
CME credit is available for the conference; an attendance roster is at each conference. You must sign in; the Vanderbilt Office of CME handles the CME records. Insert vanderblt cme here

Cadaver lab
The cadaver lab is part of the Emergency Medicine residency training program. The lab focuses on airway and procedural skills. The lab is held in conjunction with the Vanderbilt Anatomical Donation Program. The lab is held in the Medical Gross Anatomy Lab six to eight months out of the year; the remainder of the labs are held at an alternative lab in MCN. A detailed description of the lab along with the schedule can be found here.

Participation
The lab functions as a teaching resource for the Emergency Medicine residency program; first and foremost. I hold slots in each lab for LifeFlight medical crew members and on occasion provide opportunities for other individuals within the Vanderbilt system to attend. I do this on a case by case basis; therefore if you are part of the VU clinical community feel free to contact me. If possible I may be able to work you in depending on class size; dependent upon your position there may be a nominal fee. At this time I do not have the capability to host individuals from outside the Vanderbilt community. I have labs throughout the year that are dedicated or tailored to specific groups; the incoming Emergency Medicine interns as an example. These labs are special events and are closed. See the schedule for details.

Emergency Airway Management
I have attended both Ron Walls and Richard Levitan’s airway courses; I highly recommend both. Information and the texts for each are below.

Air Medical Transport and Safety
As a former flight nurse, an educator and leader in the air medical industry these topics are near and dear to me. The industry faces a multitude of challenges; it is vital that the healthcare quotient of the industry be heard and represented. Some past writings and helpful links are below:
