Background

A native of Michigan, Karen earned Magna Cum Laude honors for her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo. She graduated with honors from Western Michigan University with a Masters in Public Administration and a graduate certificate in Holistic Health. Karen began her career in emergency nursing in 1985 specializing as a flight nurse. Her clinical experience also includes critical care, infection control and epidemiology and operational leadership.
In September of 2005, Karen joined the Vanderbilt emergency medicine research division. She currently serves as Director of Clinical Research Operations and is certified through the Society of Clinical Research Associates as a Clinical Research Professional. Her academic interests are varied, including early identification of acute heart failure, ED triage systems, complimentary medicine and research operations.
She lives with her husband Brent and son Tristan, in Franklin.
