Microsoft® Exchange/Corporate Email Support

Exchange Server: Please note you will need authorization from your employer’s IT department before connecting your Motorola Android-powered phone. This setup enables you to wirelessly synchronize your email and other information directly with the information stored on a Microsoft® Exchange 2003 Server or Microsoft® Exchange 2007 Server. Typically, this set-up is required if you would like to synchronize your Motorola Android-powered phone with your employer’s Exchange Server.

Setting up Microsoft® Exchange Email

If you did not set up an Exchange Server email account, follow the steps in this section to set up an account now. Work with your Corporate IT department to gather the following info:

  • Mail server address: email.mc.vanderbilt.edu
  • Domain name: vanderbilt
  • Whether your company or email provider requires an encrypted (SSL) connection to the mail server (Vanderbilt does)
  • Your VUnetID and ePassword

Note: The Exchange Server settings are case sensitive. Be sure to enter uppercase and lowercase letters properly.

  1. From the Applications Menu, Touch Email.
  2. Type in your email address and password. Check the box only if you want this to be your default email account.
  3. Touch Next.
  4. Touch Exchange Account.
    Enter your Exchange Server information and Touch Next.

Note: Do not select "Accept all SSL certificates" unless instructed by your IT admin.

Your phone will check the incoming server settings.
If everything is correct the Account Options screen will appear allowing you to customize your account settings.
Finally, you will be asked to name this account and enter the name that will be displayed on outgoing messages. Touch Done when complete.

Note: If you are able to successfully connect an Exchange account on your phone, but your email and contacts are not syncing with your device, your company may have a security policy that prevents syncing. Click here for further troubleshooting instructions.

...or Setup Microsoft® Exchange Email with the Official Vanderbilt Instructions

  1. Launch the Mail application.
  2. Select Menu > More > New account
  3. Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
  4. Enter your full email address and password
  5. Tap on the Manual Setup button
  6. Complete the fields:
  • Email address - your full Vanderbilt email address
  • Server address - email.vanderbilt.edu
  • Domain - Vanderbilt
  • Username - vunetid (lower case letters)
  • Password - epassword
  1. Tick the option 'This server requires an encrypted SSL connection'.
  2. Tap Next
  3. Tap MailContactsCalendar to select the data to synchronize with the Exchange Server.
  4. Tap Finish setup.
